How to Search the IR
Using the Web site
Browsing
Using the navigation in the header on all pages, you can browse the IR collections by Administration, Authors, Titles, Colleges/Departments, and Theses/Dissertations.
The items in the Theses/Dissertations collections are not included in the other browsing options.
Search Box
Enter Search Terms in the Search box. This box searches all the IR collections including the Theses/Dissertations.
- Any of the words you search will be included in the result set.
- All fields are searched.
- Use quotes for exact phrase searching.
Additional Search Functionality
Once you've entered the database, you have additional functionality and options.
How do I know I'm in the database?
You will have an additional menu bar with the values shown below:
Browse
The browse function displays all the items in the particular collection that you are currently viewing. You can identify the collection in the drop down box.
To change the collection, simply select it from the drop down and click "go".
Note: All University Library digital collections will be listed in the box. The following are IR collections:

- IR - Undergraduate Theses
Advanced Search
You can use the Advanced Search to search by specific fields, limit your searches, and select which collections you want to search. Select the "help" option for detailed instructions.
Sorting Results
You can sort a results list by the items in the header row. It can be descending or ascending. To change the sort order, click on the red name of the field you want to sort by . A little blue triangle (circled in red below) identifies which field has been sorted; it points up for ascending order and down for descending order.

How do I jump directly into the database?
- Select the "Titles" link from the web site navigation bar to automatically enter the database.
- To enter the database directly for the Theses/Dissertations collection, select one of the degree collections under that menu.
- All searches in the main search box will also display a results list directly in the database.
